Because time is that which never goes back. And nothing else affects the heart more than this. An event is what happens at a certain point in time and space. Past its time, it is no more. Recordings are aural traces of past events. You cannot bring Miles Davis back to life to hear his trumpet. Same for Frank Sinatra's voice. He will sing no more. And that's all. The live concerts and studio sessions of the past are gone forever. The recordings are all we are left with. And we hold dear to them. Because we love the performances. We don't want to part with them. We don't want to hear Edgar Allan Poe's raven say: Nevermore!
