Optimize for the worst case

I recommend to all audiophiles the interviews with musicians in Stereophile. In the very enjoyable interview with Pat Metheny just published online I read a very interesting remark by mr. PM:

"We have a 2019 Honda minivan. If it sounds good in there, I'm cool. I want to hear it in the worst possible situation to know that it sounds good. Or crappy little headphones on a crappy computer—I want to hear it there, too. I have a set of Auratones because I have to think of the real-world application. If the mix sounds good in all those environments, I'm cool." (source https://www.stereophile.com/content/pat-metheny-his-place)

I think this is very important and should be taken into account by all audiophiles. Mind you, this is Pat Metheny speaking. Not a DJ, a dub remixer, a black metal producer or other sound manipulators.
