Some help to illuminate the path to room correction

The latest article published by the illuministic Kalman Rubinson comes handy for anyone who wants to try to put DSPs to good use in stereo. It is a review of Dirac 3 software, but I think it is most interesting as an introduction and invitation to digital room correction with a rational approach that I like a lot.

The issue is of paramount importance. I think it can be argued that the loudspeakers and the room are the two most important parts of every sound reproduction system. Their interaction deserves maximum attention and I think it has been largely overlooked by audiophiles. Not by music professionals. Even in the cheapest recording studios they pay a lot of attention to room acoustics and loudspeakers placement. I think the pros know better than we do in this regard. The issue is complex and involves the lack of dedicated listening rooms in most homes, but there's a huge area for improvement here, for sure.
