Stereophonic

This most basic of audio concepts seems curiously elusive, at least judging by the differences in definitions given by serious dictionaries. E.g.

Merriam-Webster has:
of, relating to, or constituting sound reproduction involving the use of separated microphones and two transmission channels to achieve the sound separation of a live hearing
(source https://www.merriam-webster.com)

While Collins has:
(of a system for recording, reproducing, or broadcasting sound) using two or more separate microphones to feed two or more loudspeakers through separate channels in order to give a spatial effect to the sound
(source https://www.collinsdictionary.com)

And to end this small collection, Dictionary.com has:
pertaining to a system of sound recording or reproduction using two or more separate channels to produce a more realistic effect by capturing the spatial dimensions of a performance (the location of performers as well as their acoustic surroundings), used especially with high-fidelity recordings and reproduction systems (opposed to monophonic).
